Blushing Summer: Dining & Living Room Tour
Have you seen the Country Living "house of the year" yet? The exterior is phenom (if that is not already an abbreviation, it totes should be). The decorating... I don't really get. And I really thought I would/should. There are some great moments, and pieces that I like. Plus, Country Living is my favorite home mag and we usually see eye to eye. Elle Decor and Dwell get me all ragey, but never my friend Country Living. But, sigh, this house is a no go for me. But you know what I do like? Love even? Those pink ceilings. Oh yes. Vindicated. I think the shade of pink for the CL House of the year is a few shades darker than ours, but it is still exciting to have a bold design choice I made last year, echoed in a show piece for a national magazine.
CL House of the year: Coral Buff by Benjamin Moore
Our House: Quartz White Behr
I wanted to show some picture of our blush ceilings in both the living and dining rooms, but I realized I don't have pictures besides those from Christmas, and since we don't have a Christmas tree all year long, haha, it was time for an updated "photo shoot". But, even though I don't like the design of the CL house, their photographer is obviously way better than I can do by myself, so mentally prepare yourself for this harsh production quality transition.
Summer Dining Room
I am working on my milk glass collection, so I only have 3 pieces right now, but they sure look cute with flowers weeds from our yard. Plus those space needle salt and pepper shakers from my Dad remind me to never take decorating that seriously. And they make me smile, because he makes me smile.
Around the corner I have some family photos plus a photo of our house from the twenties! Isn't that amazing? My cousin hunted it down for us :)
Summer Living Room
The pillow covers are actually napkins I purchased from Anthropologie. I added the pom pom trim and an envelope back to make the perfect pillows for the summer. I made the buffalo check guys too, ikea fabric.
I got this crazy rug (which I had admired for years but was always sold out) on super sale, and kept it rolled up until summer time. I prefer my cozy wool neutral rug for the cooler months. But this color explosion has been really outside my white box. And I like it, but that's as far as I want to go!
Our arc lamp has magnetic crystal charms that I think are fun and unexpected on such a severe lamp. Nox likes to knock them off when he is bored and remembers they aren't attached.
Thoughts? Are you on board with the blush ceilings? Are you in shock that I actually used some color? I am. But I know myself, and with a neutral base I can decorate to match my mood and the seasons. I will update you once again in the fall with all the knits and cozies. But for now I will enjoy my iced tea in a rainbow.
