I'm a lucky duck. All my work has been canceled for the past 3 days because the arrival of some true winter here in Seattle. 5 inches of sparkling snow and its just beautiful. No work, all play and more smiles on the streets than I ever remember seeing here. Perhaps thats why Minnesotans are so "nice", we regularly have to just give it all up to mother nature and enjoy the peace and warmth of one another. And so as the snow keeps on afluttering ;) I can sit back with some tea and sort through my memories of my parents visit last weekend. They definitely caught some of the snow, but we made the most of our time nonetheless. We took the ferry to Bainbridge Island an overnight and an escape from the city. My dad was such a trooper as mom and I skipped down the lanes peeking into to little boutiques and cooed. Our favorite by far was Churchmouse Yarns & Teas. It was such a wonderfully designed store to begin with and then their knits were so inspiring! It was such fun to take in the eye candy of rainbow walls of colored yarns and marvel at the delicate knit designs. I made some little collages to give you a taste of the experience but I much recommend hopping over to their site for skeins more. tehe.
Mom and I were so in love we bought the pattern for the grownup version of the checkered throw blanket as a souvenir and hopefully a summer project. You want to knit now too don't cha? Well your'e in luck. The store offers free patterns; one on their website here and one a month if you get on their mailing list. Pretty good deal I'd say.
I hope this little virtual tour has inspired you to knit like mad or perhaps go on an island jaunt. I think I'll just stay in watch the flakes fall getting warm fuzzies thinking of warm fuzzy yarn and family.
