Cute as a button

Cute as a button

This past sunday was my niece's first birthday! It was so wonderful. It was all things girly and ruffly and sweet. My beautiful sister and I had many discussions about what we wanted the theme and decor to be. I also have a 4 year old nephew who is incredibly charming but quite the boy, so we wanted to embrace this rare occasion to be pink and pretty. We based our plans of this adorable and unique "cute as a button" theme. Our version was, of course, more colorful and vibrant, befitting the spitfire that is Miss June. My sister picked shades of pink and shades of turquoise, which turned out so great. Being flexible on shades of pink made the making of decorations so much easier and makes the atmosphere relaxed and playful. I purchased an eclectic assortment of papers to make the buttons-on-a-string-esque banner...

There were button garlands....

Yummy pink lemonade!

Pink balloons and puffs that I crafted with help from Martha Stewart...

A button crown for the princess...

Button treats that my sister lovingly baked...

They were so yummy, Junia sure thought so...

The whole day was beautiful. I was so happy to give Junia a special first birthday. She is such a burst of joy in my life and I am so excited to be her aunt and friend as she grows up. We already have a lot in common; gap teeth, blue eyes, a love of yummy foods, needing hugs from our mamas, a keen interest in sparkly objects, and uncontrollable smiling when we cuddle in soft blankies :)
