Home Tour: living & dining room

Lets see what we have to work with shall we? First up, the living and dining room... aka 1/3 of the house...These home tour posts are going to go quickly aren't they... :) Lets take a peek.

Features we like:

  • Fir Floors (promptly being refinished)
  • Lots of light!
  • Nice arch
  • Hefty baseboards
  • Wee craftsmen windows high on the wall
  • 9' ceilings
  • Plenty of outlets?

Features we don't like so much:

  • Paint color
  • Kinda weird valances (will discuss in separate post)
  • Weak crown molding
  • Super classy 400% rayon curtains
  • Light fixture
  • Hollow core door to hall
  • Lack of window opening capabilities

Was that a delectable appetizer for the rest of the house or what? I think so.

But I am sensing some of you are thinking, "umm just needs some paint, what kinda lame fixer-upper did you get". Its true, these front two rooms are in really great condition and just need a little love, thats all. But never fear, as you will see we have a few good "big" projects to take on. For example,  people touring the house walk through the front door and their heads uncontrollably nod with approval. Nod, nod nod. But then when we hit the bathroom, nods quickly turn to wide eyed head shakes. Nod, nod, nod.. oh crap! Shake shake shake. Be patient, and I guarantee you some satisfying disgust. Yipee!

PS: Curious about the layout? Our house is basically broken up into 3 stripes. The front third of the house is the living and dining, the middle is the kitchen, bath and hall, and the back of the house is the two bedrooms. That's all folks.
