Patching it Together

Patching it Together

I love cozy. And you know whats cozy? Quilts. Quilts are cozy. So you can imagine my pleasure when I see pops of patchwork mixing in with modern sophisticated design.

I was swept off my feet by Bokja and their selection of statement making furniture. Any one of these lovelies would instantly transform a space. Can't you imagine the fun you could have? I'm envisioning one of the chairs in a crisp classic office. Wouldn't that wow the clients? I see that french lounge at the foot of a simple fresh linen bed. Indeed.

But I had this feeling I had seen such a thing before... and then it clicked! Of course I had! My all time favorite toy Groovy Girls was ahead of its time it seems. The Groovy Girl doll furniture I had as a girl certainly rocked the patchwork. It just makes me smile to see bold and fun design penetrate both the childhood and adult design spheres.

I know what your thinking though, "what kind of ridiculous blogger discusses furniture trends and children's toys at the same time!?" Well... I do. The fact is, good design is good design. And I wouldn't be who I am today with out all the exploration of color, pattern and interior design that toys, Groovy Girl in particular, offered me. I remember spending hours designing different spaces from studio apartments to swank diners; even stitched some fashion originals for my girls. One friend and I built an entire city from boxes and shelves (we even had our own currency). We sought beauty in our play and that is something that transcends age. So, Manhattan Toy, if you are out there listening... hire me? :)
