Polka Dots and Kitty Cats
Before anything else, let me just express how excited and thankful I am to have been featured on Hooked on Houses! It was such a fun experience, from innocently reading my blogs in bed, to seeing my name in the title, to calling Ansel screaming.... and you know, the rest of the day. Haha. Honestly it was such a gift to have fresh eyes on my work and giving feedback in numbers I could never receive here. It was so affirming! And Julia is the nicest. So if you happen to be reader meandering your way over here... WELCOME! If your'e not new than you must be my mother, so.... hi mama :) Back to reality. Except not, because I was chatting about this mega blogger exposure and a few folks echoed the terrifying thought that what I posted next needed to be reeeeeaaal good. Oh goodness. I tried, really I did. I have a list of posts I want to create, but when I tried to write just one, I couldn't separate them and now I have an epic long tangle of words saved somewhere. It makes no sense, and I will have to take a machete to it to make it appropriate sized posts. Then I thought to myself "Sarah, what is a small moment in your home that you like right now?"
My bed! Ok, this is always the answer even if it is essentially an island in a room of exploding laundry and cat toys (but i would never show you that). My bed is my temple. A bed, a nest, a cozy pile, whatever, is incredibly important to me. Bed time is the best time. But it has recently gotten a little upgrade.... a fluffy polka dot bedspread! Ahhhhhhh! Can not contain my love.
This was not a whim purchase, oh no, I have been hunting for this blanket for a long while! One of the many shows Ansel and I watch together is Elementary. It is pretty bleak; a lot of dark camera filters and chipped paint, plus I am constantly stumped by Lucy Liu's wardrobe... but in almost every episode, Sherlock wakes up Joan Watson in some obnoxious way and we get a shot of her bedroom. Where she happens to have the cutest swirling white chenille polka dot blanket. And for at least an entire season, I paused each episode, and proclaimed "I want that", and then press play so Ansel doesn't refuse to stop watching things with me.
I was certain that there was going to be a whole article on ElleDecor.com about this blanket and its deep character symbolism in the show yet ready-for-your-home-chicness. But nope. Not to mention there are zeeeeero production photos of the bedroom! I was forced to take screen shots because there is... nothing! So I was left to plug in various search terms to try to find such a blanket. Fruitless. Then this super cheesy catalog came to the house, and I was going to just recycle it, but I was bored, and huzzzah! A look a like blanket. So I bought it (the full size because I don't need all that draping to the floor business). The end. I am super pleased.
And then I took some pictures of it to show you, and it turned into an all out kitty photoshoot.
Oh yes, and I wanted to say how much I love my prints from Janet Hill Studio. Her art is so amazing. I swear she paints my day dreams. Every one is its own little story, and instantly sparks the imagination. And the detail! I thought these two bedroom paintings would be lovely for our bedroom. I am very creative like that.
And so that is about the best post I could think of. And I mean that with no sarcasm. Honestly for me, a cozy bed, fluffy polka dots and happy cuddle cats truly is one of the best combinations in the world. Mmmmm, I'm heading back to bed.
